Fob reader beeps but the door stays locked? Door will not relock after release? We repair and install electric strikes, magnetic locks and the door hardware behind your access control, for offices, clinics, condos and stores across the GTA.
Access control is only as reliable as the door it sits on. Most of the calls we get for “the fob isn’t working” turn out to be mechanical: an electric strike that is out of line with the latch, a mag lock plate that no longer meets the magnet, or a door closer that does not pull the door shut so the lock can engage.
We focus on the door side of access control: strikes, maglocks, request-to-exit hardware, closers, hinges and frames. When the problem is in the controller or wiring panel, we tell you so and work alongside your security provider.

The strike is releasing, but the latch is pressed hard against the keeper because the door has shifted or the closer is pulling too hard. Realigning the door and strike usually fixes it.
No sound when the fob is used usually means power, wiring or a failed solenoid. We test the strike and replace it if it has failed.
The door is not closing fully, so the latch never re-engages. Closer adjustment and hinge repair are often the fix.
The armature plate must sit flat against the magnet. A loose plate, a bent door or dirt on the faces reduces holding force dramatically.
A worn strike, wrong fail-safe setting or a door that bounces back from the frame can leave it unsecured.
Request-to-exit devices that fail can trap people or leave doors unlocked. We replace push buttons and check that exit hardware releases correctly.
An electric strike replaces the normal strike in the frame. When powered (or unpowered, depending on the setting), the keeper releases so the latch can pass. Strikes work with the existing lockset and are common on office suites, back doors and storefronts.
A fail-secure strike stays locked if power is lost, which suits perimeter security. A fail-safe strike unlocks when power is lost. The right choice depends on the door’s role and the fire and building rules that apply to it.
A maglock is an electromagnet on the frame header with a steel plate on the door. They are simple and strong, with no moving parts, and are common on glass doors and lobbies. Maglocks release when power is cut, so they must be paired with proper request-to-exit and fire alarm release where required.
| Electric strike | Magnetic lock | |
|---|---|---|
| Mounted | In the frame, behind the latch | On the header and door face |
| Works with existing lock | Yes | Separate from the lockset |
| Power loss | Fail-secure or fail-safe options | Releases (fail-safe) |
| Best for | Office suites, back doors, storefronts | Glass doors, lobbies, double doors |
We check that the door closes fully, the latch lines up with the strike and the maglock plate meets the magnet squarely. Many faults are fixed right here.
We confirm voltage at the strike or maglock, check the solenoid or coil, and test release and relock.
Strikes, keepers, maglocks, armature plates, mounting brackets, door position switches and exit buttons.
Closers, hinges and frames are adjusted or repaired so the door reliably returns to the locked position. See door closer repair and continuous hinge and pivot repair.
If the controller, reader or wiring needs work, we document what we found so your access control company can complete the repair quickly.

Suite entry doors with strikes and card readers, often with closers and hold-open requirements.
Glass vestibule doors with maglocks, automatic operators and enterphone release. See automatic door repair.
Controlled entry with quick egress. Exit hardware and releases must work every time.
Steel rear doors with strikes, panic hardware and door contacts. See panic bar and exit device repair and steel door repair.
Locked doors on exit routes must still allow people to leave quickly. Requirements for egress doors, hold-opens and fire alarm release come from the building and fire codes; the province publishes the Ontario Fire Code. We install hardware that supports a compliant setup and recommend confirming specific requirements with your building or fire official.
Electric strikes come in many styles, and the right one depends on the door, frame and lock.
Hollow metal frames, aluminum storefront frames and wood frames each need a strike designed for that frame, with the right body depth and faceplate.
Cylindrical locks, mortise locks and rim exit devices each need a matching strike so the latch and deadlatch sit correctly.
Fire doors need fire-rated strikes that keep the door latched in a fire.
12 or 24 volt, AC or DC, fail-safe or fail-secure. The strike must match the access control power supply and the door’s role.
Magnetic locks are reliable when installed correctly. Most maglock complaints come from installation details:
We also check that people can always exit, which is the most important part of any maglock installation.

Electric strikes, magnetic locks, electrified mortise locks, electrified exit devices, request-to-exit buttons and motion sensors, door position switches, and power transfer hinges that carry wiring through the door. For the full door, see commercial lock repair and rekey and exit device repair.
The strike is releasing but the latch is jammed against it, usually because the door has shifted or the closer is too strong. Realignment typically fixes it.
Yes, on most hollow metal and aluminum frames. We match the strike to your lockset and the door’s role.
We handle the door hardware side. For readers, controllers and software we coordinate with your access control provider.
Often the plate is loose or not sitting flat. Re-mounting and cleaning the faces restores holding force; failed coils need replacement.
Yes. We offer 24/7 service for doors that cannot be secured. Call 647-931-0097.
