Push-button and wave-to-open door operators for storefronts, offices, clinics and condo lobbies. We install, retrofit and repair low-energy swing door operators so your entrance is easy for everyone to use, across Toronto and the GTA.
A heavy commercial door can be a real barrier for people using wheelchairs, walkers or strollers, for older customers, and for anyone carrying deliveries. A low-energy door operator opens the door with a push of a button or a wave of the hand, then closes it gently and safely.
Commercial Door Repair Ontario installs operators on existing doors in most cases, so there is no need to replace the entrance. We also repair operators that have stopped working, which is one of the most common calls we get from condos, clinics and plazas.

A motorized unit mounted on the header above the door. Low-energy operators move the door at controlled speed and force, which is why they suit most public entrances.
Push plates with the accessibility symbol, or touchless wave-to-open sensors, mounted at a reachable height on both sides of the door.
Push or pull arms connect the operator to the door, depending on which way the door swings.
On locked doors, the operator is tied into an electric strike or maglock so the door unlocks before it opens. See electric strike and mag lock repair.
Optional presence sensors stop or slow the door if someone is in its path.
A dedicated power supply and adjustable hold-open time so people have enough time to pass through.
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and its standards set accessibility requirements for organizations in Ontario, and the Ontario Building Code sets requirements for barrier-free entrances in new construction and major renovations. The province explains the general obligations on its accessibility rules for businesses page.
Whether a power door operator is legally required at your entrance depends on the type of building, when it was built or renovated, and the work being done. We install operators that meet common barrier-free expectations: reachable actuators, controlled opening force and speed, and enough open time. For a definitive answer on what your building requires, check with your architect, building department or accessibility consultant.

We check the door, frame, swing direction, closer, lock and where power can be run. Doors that drag or sag must be repaired first, because an operator cannot compensate for a door that is hanging badly. See hinge and pivot repair.
We recommend push plates or touchless sensors and the right arm for your door, and explain how it will work with your existing lock and access control.
The operator is mounted on the header, actuators are installed on both sides, and power is connected. Where an electric strike is needed, it is installed and tied in.
The opening and closing speed, force and hold-open time are adjusted so the door is safe and comfortable to use.
We test from both sides and show staff how to switch the operator on, off and to hold-open.
Operators get heavy use and are often the first thing to fail at a busy entrance. Common problems we fix:
For sliding automatic doors and other operator types, see automatic door repair.
Front entrances where customers carry bags or push strollers. See storefront door repair.
Vestibule doors with enterphone and fob release.
Patients with mobility challenges need an easy entrance.
Universal washroom doors with lock-indicator integration and interior suite doors.

The most common choice for retail, office, clinic and condo entrances. They open the door at a controlled speed and force, work with push plates or wave sensors, and can be fitted to most existing single doors. Because of their limited force, they are suitable for most public entrances without additional guard rails.
Open faster and are triggered by motion sensors as people approach. They are used where traffic is constant, such as hospitals and large retail, and require safety sensors and proper signage.
Used on automatic sliding entrances in grocery stores, malls and lobbies. They need more space and a different door system. See automatic door repair.
Pairs of doors can have one active leaf with an operator, or both leaves automated. Vestibules with two sets of doors need actuators placed so that both sets open in sequence, giving people time to pass through comfortably.
Many entrances are locked outside business hours or controlled by fobs. In those cases the operator must work together with the lock. A typical setup uses an electric strike or maglock: when an authorized fob is presented or the door is unlocked for the day, the push plate unlocks the strike first and then opens the door. When the building is locked, the outside push plate is disabled while the inside plate still lets people leave.
Getting this sequence right avoids the most common complaint we hear: “the button opens the door, but it’s still locked”. We install and adjust the strike, the operator and the timing so they work together. See electric strike and mag lock repair.

Universal washrooms often combine an accessible operator with a lock that the user engages from inside, an occupied indicator outside and an emergency release. The operator must not open the door while the room is locked. We supply and install complete universal washroom door packages and repair existing ones.
In most cases yes, as long as the door and frame are in good condition. We repair the door first if it drags or sags.
Only if the door is locked during hours when the operator is used. Unlocked doors usually just need the operator and actuators.
Push plates are familiar and inexpensive. Touchless wave sensors are popular in clinics and food service for hygiene.
A typical single-door installation is completed in a day, depending on power and lock work.
